Day 25 March 2018

We were out well before sunrise.... So we enjoyed it while underway.

Past the gigantic power plant... at least that’s what we think it is....

A lone dolphin decided to tag along port side instead of the bow...

This is our first relevant bridge... we could get under it but the antennae had to come down.... we require a minimum of 23’. This one has 3’ additional at center span. We’re good....

The derelict boat problem in FL is a real issue. You see these kind of abandoned boats surprisingly often. This one is far off the channel.

first lock- franklin lock... only 2’ rise and it’s only 9:00am. So far, so good. For those of you who may have never “locked”, this is what it looks like inside. Here you position yourself, and grab a line and secure at bow and stern. You manually adjust the lines as the water level changes. When the front doors open, you let go and proceed out of the lock. These walls are nice clean walls because the change is only 2’. The bigger locks can be really green and slimy. Yuk!

Moving easterly in the morning, the sun’s reflection  can be murder on the eyes! Especially when trying to see water levels at bridges. Alva Bridge is 23 feet at center so we must request an opening...

This is what the gears look like on the underside....

the next bridge is the very short 9’ Fort Denaud swing bridge. Here comes the guy out to the middle to open it....

Next is the Ortona lock... an 8’ differential.... This is the really slimy one. Sorry, my hands were too busy holding on to grab a picture.

and this is the ever exciting okee waterway scenery....

We stop for the night at Roland and Mary Ann Martin’s Marina. It’s quite the place out of days long gone by.... this is the long and only dock.
