General update....

So, it's been a couple of months since we got back from our Savannah trip. We have been up north for Christmas and New Year; which were both wonderful, thank you. Since then, we've been very busy doing boat chores that are in need of doing. The list never ends, does it? Silver Bay hit the 5 year mark this winter and so we had lot of long-term maintenance chores that were due. 

One of the recurring chores that we have had to do at least once a year, usually every 8-10 months or so, is revarnishing the beautiful teak cap rail. Yes, it's beautiful but man does it require maintenance. Not only does it cost a pretty penny to refinish, it prevents us from going anywhere for 4-6 weeks, sometimes even more, while it is being done. Every year. That was our biggest frustration. This year we finally said "enough!". Awl grip, which is a brand of marine "paint" product has recently come out with a new creamy "teak" color which, from a distance, looks enough like teak for us to be happy. Until recently, they only had versions of white and off-white. When we saw this creamy brown color on another Krogen (Next Dance- thank you Pauline and Mark!) we REALLY liked it. It provides enough contrast against the white of the hull to make a reasonable substitute to the real thing. What's the difference? It is known to last a good 10 years or more! We started with doing the name boards/running boards to make sure we really liked it enough. See how nice it is? We couldn't be happier. After this, we had the names put back on and reinstalled everything on the boat.

After we made the decision to go ahead with the cap rail refinishing it was time to pull the boat and do some hull chores that can't be done in the water. The weather of late had been so rainy and miserable  we weren't missing anything on the waterway until it warmed up a bit anyway. It was February and February is not a great month most of the time. So, we did "chores". We had to power wash and bottom paint, have TRAC in to over-haul the stabilizers and thrusters, redo the prop speed on the propeller, replace hull zincs and a few other things that you can't do while in the water.

Here you can see that Bruce captained the trip and our friends, Jim and Catherine, crewed. I was the one to drive the car and pick everyone up. And take the pictures, of course.
