Naples to Shark River

Our last night in Naples we enjoyed a beautiful sunset...

And after dark we saw Venus rising....

Here we are on our last afternoon at Naples Bay Resort...

The next morning, as usual, we were up and out early...around 7:30. We were going back out to the gulf on the way to an anchorage at Shark River for a couple of nights. It was a beautiful morning with clear skies and reasonably moderate winds, about 15 mph. The seas were 2-4 feet and were even comfortable at the beam.

Lots of small fishing boats zoomed past us on this early Saturday morning. The rest of Naples was clearly sleeping in...

This guy zipped past and then turned around...perhaps he forgot something? or someone?

Once on the way, however, most of the morning was spent dodging crab pots. Often times you see them in "strings" but this time they were grouped more in "minefields".

Most of the day we enjoyed following seas (from our stern) but later, as we had to change direction, even beam seas were very comfortable.

Most of the day we had no one in any direction... except this (not so little) sea turtle that swam by. He was actually bigger than he appears.

As we were coming into the Shark River at the end of the day, we passed this pod of dolphins....

As we set into our anchorage for the night, we found ourselves among 8 boats. Fortunately there was lots of room but it took us a couple of times to set the anchor just right. The first time our stern was too shallow and we very lightly ran aground. So we picked up and moved to a different section and were much happier.

(sorry the picture I took was too blurry to use)

This is what the anchorage looked like the next day. SO incredibly serene. This was the view from the starboard side....

And this the view from the port side...

The second night we were joined by only one other boat. It was superbowl sunday so we assumed everyone else was off watching the game..... somewhere else. Here is what they looked like shortly after they came in...

As hoped, we enjoyed 2 beautiful sunsets... the first night....

and the second night...

Last but not least, we had lots of these to keep us company...
