St. Augustine to Daytona and through to New Smyrna Beach

It is Monday morning and or plan is to move on to Daytona today where we plan to anchor for the night. This is what St. Augustine looks like as we move on by.

We cross under the "Bridge of Lions" in St. Augustine.... cool, huh?

Today we enjoy another beautiful morning. The last few days have been quite windy and chilly. Today is supposed to be a bit warmer - we'll see.....

We pass under a number of bridges today, most of which are tall enough not to require openings. We are making such excellent progress, thanks to the series of inlets we pass that give us a big boost in current at our stern. We travel today mostly at around 8 - 8 1/2 knots. That's a nice pace! As we approach Daytona, we decide to move along to New Smyrna Beach instead of stopping as we had planned. It'll make for a long day, but things are going so well, why not?

Here you can see how easy it is to identify Daytona. Talk about a whole new "look".....

So....you could probably see this coming, right? .... we're moving along just magnificently all day.... as we approach the Ponce De Leon inlet, SLAM ----on a super skinny turn IN the channel of the waterway--- we run aground. Man, O man did we run aground. We could not get off no matter what we tried. Hello? Boat US? HELP! Thank goodness we sprung for the unlimited plan and have no hesitation to call them out for assistance.

Here we are being rescued.... As Bruce has often quoted from others.... "there are those who have run aground on the ICW and those who say they haven't and lied". It is inevitable...

It did take quite a while to be twisted loose (well over an hour), but we were free once again and moved on to New Smyrna Beach well in time to be in before dusk. We had a long day, but it was still a good one. We made a quick and easy dinner, and collapsed! Tomorrow's another day.....
