Oxford to Solomons

Leaving Oxford on the start of our 6th day here, its time to move on. We are very itchy. Besides, it is freezing here and we need to start moving south! This is how the day begins.....

Some of the "lighthouses" in this section are definitey in a state of disrepair. This is the Choptank River Light - not so pretty.

Back out on the Choptank River and into Chesapeake Bay, the conditions are a little choppy this morning. The weather is partly cloudy and it is very chilly. Would someone please tell me why winter has come so early? brrrr! We are so happy to have a warm protected pilothouse to navigate from.

The chop is a little rough, so we cross over toward the western shore a bit to find a more protected pathway. Otherwise, we'd have to take the chop on the beam - no thank you! Maggie is not so happy as it is with the motion so she stays very close to me. Thankfully, the water is indeed smoother over here. We pass the drilling platform.....

And the Cove Point Lighthouse just on shore....

We know we are back in Chesapeake Bay, the commercial traffic is abundant.

Very interesting route today. As we follow the Patuxent River into Solomons there is lots of helicopter action just in the distance. The Patuxent Naval Air Station is alive and well. We also "experience" the flight of 3 fighter jets up ahead of us. Hard to miss those! Sorry, they are waaay to fast to get a picture.

Here we are coming into Solomons Island.....

And here is the sunset over us...how nice...
